"Ten years that have passed since the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was created in 2001 have proved that this was a right and foresighted decision. The SCO has firmly established itself as a powerful regional alliance seeking to bolster stability, security and economic and cultural cooperation in Eurasia and the rest of the world. President Dmitry Medvedev pinpointed this once again at a jubilee SCO summit in the Kazakh capital Astana on Wednesday.
Initially made up of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the SCO was joined by Uzbekistan later in 2001. It now has four observer states – India, Iran, Pakistan and Mongolia. Together, the SCO member states and their partners account for nearly a half of the global population, making the Shanghai Group a leading player in the Eurasian field"..............LINK
