''IMF snub irks Zimbabwe''

From ZBC

''The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it is not in a position to provide financial assistance to the economy in a move that has raised concern over its commitment to restore ties with Zimbabwe.

According to resolutions by a visiting IMF team, the Bretton Woods institution says it will restore funding after the repayment of outstanding debts of about US$200 million.

The move has however raised concern among stakeholders over the IMF’s continuous visits to the country with business experts calling on government to ignore the institution’s policies and advice.''

Zimbabwe: "Cheap Chinese imports killing us''

From News Day

''He said a lot of Asian imports were being dumped into the country through unofficial channels and at cheaper prices, thus crippling the Zimbabwean manufacturing industry. “We need government to get involved and give lines of credit because our industry dwindled four to five years ago and the dollarisation issue opened up competition from outside the borders,” he said.''

Zimbabwe — ''All for minerals, metals and land''

From The Herald

"Challenging heresies of colonial history
And of course the occupation of Zimbabwe followed well behind a wave of gold-seekers and treasure hunters who invaded and ransacked the country well before Rhodes dreamt of coloring us pink, British pink. I restate, we were invaded and occupied for our minerals, with colonial misgovernance attaching to the whole mining enterprise as a concomitant, an incidental, necessary, bothersome evil needed to stabilise matters for quieter, more profitable mining and much, much  later, more profitable, monopoly farming. Serious farming only takes place after the First World War, with colonial reports clearly indicating the settler community lived off the produce of industrious African farmers."

Zimbabwe: ''Is Nation Ready for a Non-Liberation War Leader?''

From AllAfrica

"As the country gears up for harmonised elections this year, Zimbabweans are faced with the choice of either electing to remain on the path of the nationalistic project of national empowerment and anti-imperialism espoused by Zanu-PF or the fuzzy economic liberalism of job creation peddled by MDC-T."

'Dealing with Zimbabwe's debt'

from the guardian........

"The economy has now stabilised. The US dollar effectively became the official currency in 2009, breaking the cycle of hyperinflation and recession caused by the government's printing of money. There is a coalition government that has survived for three years without collapsing into civil war, as many feared. Central Harare feels like most other cities: traffic, banks, shops, adverts, newspapers – and inequality. The Zimbabwean upper classes are benefiting from high prices for exports of minerals such as gold and platinum"..........READ MORE

'Import restrictions to hit Zimbabwe's economy'

from businesslive........

"Import restrictions and an increase in the import duty on finished and processed goods are likely to hit Zimbabwe's economy while economic analysts fear that this could also lead to shortages of basic goods and commodities in shops as Zimbabwe's industry and manufacturing sector do not have the capacity to meet rising demand"

"Statistics at hand indicate that goods and products produced outside Zimbabwe constitute more than 40% of stock in shops and retail outlets. Cheap Chinese imports account for about half of the foreign goods and products in Zimbabwean shops, although there have been complaints about the quality of Chinese manufactured goods".........READ MORE

'The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries calls for clampdown on cheap communist Chinese imports'

from financialgazette..........

"The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president, Joseph Kanyekanye, has launched at veiled attack on the government's Look East Policy, saying Chinese imports were now the single largest threat to local industries.

He said government should regulate cheap imports from the world's second largest economy to ensure that local industries, still smarting from a decade-long economic crisis that was broken by dollarisation of the economy in 2009 are protected.
Local industries were currently operating at an average of 48 percent but have failed to lift themselves out of the operational quagmire of the past decade due to an influx of cheap imports and lack of capital for the refurbishment and replacement of antiquated machinery.
"CZI has observed that there has been an influx of goods particularly from the Chinese and I'm not xenophobic but I      feel for my country," Kanyekanye said in his contribution to the Medium Term Plan (MTP) launched by government a fortnight ago".............READ MORE

Zimbabwe: 'Workers want Chinese expelled'

from thezimbabwean.........

"Zimbabwean workers at Chinese cotton firm, Sino-Zimbabwe Cotton Holdings, have demanded the expulsion of Chinese nationals running businesses in the country after a march to protest failure by the company to pay their wages.

The workers first demonstrated against the management at the company’s factory near Hopley, a settlement just outside the capital Harare, before marching to its headquarters in the centre of the city.
The placard-wielding workers accused the management of being insensitive to their plight by refusing to increase their monthly salaries.
“They are not paying our wages and yet they abuse the very same workers. Enough is enough, they should go back to their country,” one of the workers said during the march.
Management at Sino-Zimbabwe could not be reached for comment.
Sino-Zimbabwe was last year accused of using political muscle to clandestinely purchase cotton from farmers contracted by local companies"..............READ MORE

Chinese Nationals mistreating the people of Zimbabwe

shame on you communist china.........from newsday......

"The visit by the high-level Chinese delegation comes in the wake of recent media reports that Chinese-led companies in Zimbabwe were inhumanely treating locals employed at their companies.

Last month, construction workers at the National Defence College employed by a Chinese contractor, Anhui Foreign Economy Construction Company, downed tools over a litany of complaints including physical assaults at work.

In a related incident last week, employees at Chinese Garden Restaurant in Milton Park exposed how their Chinese employer was ill-treating and underpaying them.

Patrick Mandaza, a cook at the restaurant, had to undergo X-ray examinations after he was allegedly assaulted by his Chinese employer.

In Chiadzwa where another Chinese firm, Anjin, is mining diamonds, complaints of ill-treatment of locals have also been raised, prompting the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions to intervene"...........LINK

'Zimbabwe: Leave Us Alone, President Tells West'

from allafrica.com....

"Mugabe yesterday slammed Europeans for their continued meddling in the country's internal affairs saying Zimbabwe is a sovereign State with the right to determine its own destiny.

The President, who was speaking at the burial of Cde Menard Livingstone Muzariri at the National Heroes Acre, challenged Zimbabweans to be vigilant in the face of continued aggression by Western powers.

"We do not sit as Zimbabweans, as Sadc to debate how the British coalition led by Cameron is faring. We do not debate how the Americans are running their own country and so we get alarmed when these countries have the audacity to take us as an item to discuss in their own parliament," he said.

"We do not worry about the goings on in Europe. We do not worry about the unnatural things happening there where they turn a man into a woman and woman into a man . . . If they want to call their country into a gaydom, a British gaydom, it is up to them. Chengetai tsvina dzenyu ikoko, zvikaitika kuno tinoti itsvina anozviita tinoti mupengo," President Mugabe said"............read more here

"Sino - Zimbabwe relations – who benefits?'

a must read to understand the colonization of africa by the chinese.....from the zimbabwean............

"This question can be answered in one sentence – the Chinese, Mugabe, his cabal of generals and their hangers on.

Of course the Chinese, being shrewd businessmen, get the lion’s share. Although they do try to put a positive spin on their aggressive global expansion – for example Heilongjiang Beidahuang Nongken Group, China's largest agricultural company, said recently that it plans to acquire or lease 495,000 acres of farmland in Latin American countries as well as Russia, the Philippines, Australia and Zimbabwe.

The group's chairman Sui Fengfu told the Chinese official newspaper China Daily that: "In Venezuela and Zimbabwe, the Chinese group mainly supplies machinery and labour, and takes about 20 percent of the harvest in return.” I would be very surprised if this is indeed the case with China’s involvement in Zimbabwean agriculture. It is difficult to get at the facts – shrouded as they are in the propaganda and disinformation that surrounds everything relating to Mugabe and Zanu (PF).  It would be far closer to the truth to say that Mugabe has virtually mortgaged Zimbabwe to the Chinese, and future generations of our children will pay the price".......read more here

'For $700 Million Mugabe Lets China Write Its Own Rules'

from foreign policy in focus.......

........."In what has to be one of the largest protection money payouts ever recorded, the Chinese government announced last week that it had agreed to loan Zimbabwe $700 million in desperately needed funds. Of course, the Chinese did not frame their offer as anything other than humanitarian, announcing that the loan would be used for investment in the agricultural, health and water sewage sectors. But amidst President Robert Mugabe’s demand that all foreign-owned mining ventures sell majority holdings to black Zimbabweans, the meaning of the money was clear. Vice Premier Wang Qishan, visiting Harare last week to announce the agreement, was unambiguous about the expected return on the loan, stating flatly that he “hope[d] Zimbabwe will protect the legitimate right of Chinese businesses in the country.”........................read more here
