"Over there — as in cut U.S. military bases over there.
That’s the advice Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Dallas, and five of her Senate colleagues are giving to the 12-member House-Senate panel mapping deficit reduction.
Hutchison, joined by two Republicans and three Democrats, want the so-called super committee to reduce the projected $38.1 billion in federal spending on overseas bases in Europe, South Korea and Guam through 2020.
The lawmakers want immediate action on the $623 million in planned spending through 2016.
“Without question, our military construction program should be both fiscally responsible and driven by the future security needs of U.S. forces,” Hutchison said. “I urge the Joint Select Committee to adopt common sense reductions that bring our military training capabilities home, create American jobs in military construction, save taxpayer dollars and meet the security needs of U.S. forces and the American people”.............READ MORE
