"THE US will boost its military activities in the Territory from next year under an agreement between the two nations that will allow America to enhance its presence in the Asia Pacific region.
Under the deal announced by US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Julia Gillard, a force of around 250 Marines will begin training in the Territory next year, increasing to a battalion strength groups of 1000 by 2014 and a 2500-strong Marine Air-Ground Task Force by 2016.
That will include vehicles, ships and aircraft.
For the first time the US Marine task force will be given formal approval to train alone.
More US aircraft will come through RAAF Base Tindal in the Northern Territory, and there are plans for more ships and submarines - including nuclear-powered vessels - to move through the HMAS Stirling Navy base in Western Australia"..........READ MORE
