U.K.: 'Nearly six million customers are to be hit with energy price rises today as EDF becomes the latest to roll out its increases of 15.4pc in the cost of gas and a 4.5pc in electricity'

"Energy customers in some of the poorer parts of the UK are paying more for their domestic fuel than those in the more prosperous South.
According to a nationwide study issued by Energyhelpline.com, the postcode lottery means that those living in Merseyside and North Wales are paying the highest typical electricity and gas bills in the country with an average customer on £1,373 a year. This is £80 more than those in London and £79 more than those in Southern England.
