"An elderly man is in serious condition after setting himself on fire last Thursday in southern Tunisia, in an apparent attempt to draw attention to what is being described as the dire economic situation in the country.
On a short visit to Tunisia on Thursday, French foreign minister Alain Juppe hailed the democratic transition and offered support for the new government. He said France will increase its aid to Tunisia, and encouraged French investors and tourists to return to the North African country. Similar pledges of financial assistance have been made by other countries, but so far there is little evidence of it."
