California: "Long Beach school board approves layoffs of 300"

"The Long Beach school board has approved the layoffs of more than 300 employees, including the entire teaching staff of the Head Start preschool program, as part of proposed budget cuts.

Last year, nearly 800 employees, mostly teachers, were laid off in Long Beach schools."
