"As part of a $1.5 trillion deficit-reduction package it will present in the coming weeks, the White House says it plans to present a financial rescue plan for the Postal Service, The Washington Post reports.
The Obama administration wants Congress to grant a 90-day extension so the USPS can pay mandatory annual retirement payments totaling about $5.5 billion and give negotiators time to work out a possible rescue.
