''The announcement by North Korea of the launching of a rocket prompted Japan to deploy Aegis-equipped warships and Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) interceptor missile launchers to a number of islands in southern Okinawa Prefecture. Furthermore, the Defense Ministry hinted that the SDF deployment on Ishigaki and Miyako islands may become permanent.

Although this has not yet taken place, such a step may affect the possible scenarios for a final settlement of the sovereignty dispute over the Senkaku-Diaoyu Islands, claimed by Beijing. Something similar could be said about the proposal by Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara to buy these islands.''
