Detroit Mayor: 'Once we run out of money, there is no way we can run the city'

From DetNews

''Mayor Dave Bing is openly meeting with the City Council Monday morning to discuss the state's threat to withhold millions in revenue-sharing money unless a lawsuit challenging the consent agreement is withdrawn.

Bing has said the city could go broke by Friday if the lawsuit proceeds.

"Once we run out of money, there is no way we can run the city — that's the risk we're up against today," Bing told the panel.

Bing acknowledged fighting the state through further litigation puts the city in position of playing a game of chance.

"They have the hammer right now," he said of the state. "They have the money."
Bing also noted it's unknown how the legal process will play out or how long it will take.

"In the meantime, we have no money to run the city," he said.''
