Every House Republican voted for the "Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2011" (H.R. 459) except freshman Rep. Bob Turner of New York, while Democrats were about evenly split.''

“Our nation is in dire fiscal crisis to the extent that if reforms are not instituted through the regular process of Congressional budgeting, then they will have to take place in a scenario closer to the reforms now addressing European fiscal crises.
“The Ryan budget reduces the federal government’s debt burden by trillions of dollars yet it does so in decades and not immediately, as our severe debt crisis warrants. Washington has a debt problem because the federal government spends too much, and the federal government spends too much because it tries to do too much. Any budget plan will fail to make the serious and timely spending cuts needed as long as it accepts the premise that Washington should run the economy, run our lives, and run the world."

"Ever the small-government idealist, Republican presidential contender Ron Paul said he skipped Secret Service protection because it was a "form of welfare."
"You're having the taxpayers pay to take care of somebody," Paul told talk show host Jay Leno on Tuesday night. "And I'm an ordinary citizen, and I think I should pay for my own protection."

"Last week, Obama administration officials made it clear that even the fig leaf of Congressional participation provided by the 2003 "authorization" to use force in Iraq was to be ignored as well. In a hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta stated clearly and repeatedly that the administration felt it was legally justified to use military force against Syria solely with "international permission". Such "international permission" could come by way of the United Nations, NATO, or some other international body. Secretary Panetta then told Senator Sessions that depending on the situation, the administration would consider informing Congress of its decision and might even seek authorization after the fact."
