''The visit by the emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Gaza becomes a landmark event.
It is the first visit by a head of state to Gaza, which signifies an
effective end to Hamas’s political isolation and at the same time
further boosts Hamas’ stature as the voice of the Palestinians vis-a-vis
Fatah.
To be sure, Hamas is delighted and they laid out a red carpet
welcome for the emir and, equally, the chairman of the Palestinian
Authority Mahmoud Abbas should be an unhappy man. But Abbas is not the
only unhappy party — so is Israel and some others, too. ''
