Clinton: ''US forced open India’s retail trade''

''The speech on “economic statecraft” by the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Singapore Management University earlier today, Nov 17, made repeated references to India. 
First, the salience of Clinton’s speech. She underscored that the imperative for President Barack Obama “spending all this time in Asia so soon after winning re-election” is not far to seek — economic engagement. 

She gave an altogether new perspective on the US’s “rebalancing” in Asia, which Indian pundits are inclined to see as a military enterprise, while overlooking that, to quote Clinton, “for the first time in modern history, nations are becoming major global powers without also becoming major global military powers.''
