"Yesterday, when our office was discussing Ben Bernanke’s admission that there was nothing left to do with respect to the economy, we laughed at the proposed title of “Federal Reserve’s Ben Bernanke on Economy: I Got Nothin’,” but none of us were surprised.
For if the past 100 years of American free market economics has taught us anything is that it is one big magic show—a vast and sprawling illusion, with halls upon halls of mirrors, and elected officials, bankers and stock market speculators (gamblers) acting as a collective body of the Wizard of Oz.
America’s ascendancy was always the Grand Illusion—but an illusion made possible by the historical madness that was World War II, wherein no one was left standing but the United States. The Soviet Union may have seemed a serious power, but their illusion was even more fragile than the US variant, for the US attraction lies within the promise that people could improve their station in life with just a little elbow grease, a cut-throat attitude and the willingness to become a Wizard in a grand Land of Oz. Buy into the illusion, and you will find bestowed upon you your own personal fiefdom, in which you can sit in your underwear, grip a channel changer in one hand and a beer in another, and control the landscape before your eyes"..............LINK
