read more........from tripoli post.....

"The military commander in charge of forces in Tripoli, Abdel Hakkim Belhaj has started legal action against the UK government, which he claims was complicit in his illegal rendition and torture, BBC has reported.

Abdel Hakkim Belhaj is claiming that in 2004 with Libya then under the dictatorial regime of Muammar Al Qathafi, he and his wife were both detained in Bangkok, and then transferred to Abu Salim jail in Tripoli where he was held for six years and often tortured.

The UK Foreign Office does not comment on intelligence matters, the BBC said, however , the government is holding an inquiry into claims of detainee rendition.

In the case of Belhaj, who was one of the leaders of the revolutionary forces that helped to overthrow the former Libyan leader Muammar Al Qathafi, he claims that during his time in prison he underwent interrogation by agents from the UK and US, among others, under suspicion that he was an al-Qaeda sympathiser."
